Iran, Oman Review Expansion of Mutual Cooperation, Regional Developments
At the meeting, Khatami underlined that the Islamic Republic of Iran and Oman call for restoration of peace, stability and security in the region.
The two countries have enjoyed a very good trust and consolidated ties in the past years, he said while voicing Iran’s willingness to deepen and bolster mutual ties.
Khatami lauded Oman’s prudence in dealing with regional crisis such as the events in Iraq as well as the firm determination of both sides to restore peace and security in the region.
Highlighting the need for unity and solidarity among Muslims, he said regional countries should cooperate to restore security in the region.
Khatami also underlined the need for expansion of economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries.
He expressed the hope that the occupying forces will withdraw from Iraq as soon as possible and the grounds for installing a government which forges friendly ties with its neighbors will be prepared.
Referring to the issue of Palestine, Khatami said that life in today’s world is not possible without good neighborly relations and mutual respect.
The Omani interior minister, for his part, voiced the willingness of his country’s high ranking officials to further broaden all-out relations with Tehran and called for deepening mutual cooperation in security, economic and political affairs.
Highlighting Iran’s historical and cultural positions, he said consultations between officials of the two sides can help promote mutual interests.
Saud Ibn Ibrahim Al Busa’eed said Oman believes that through the will of the regional leaders, it would be possible to restore peace and stability in the region and create suitable grounds for development of the countries in the region.
"We support restoration of stability in Iraq and believe that the Iraqi nation will attain its goal in no time," he said.
"We support justice for the people of Palestine", he concluded.
